Baltimore, MD (PRWEB) May 18, 2012

Maryland Traditions, a program of the Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC), has announced that more than 30 master artists and their apprentices will lead free workshops, demonstrations or both at the 2nd Annual Maryland Traditions Folklife Festival. The Festival, an interactive, family-friendly celebration of traditional music, arts and foods from across the state is from 11:00 a.m. 7:00 p.m., June 16 at the Creative Alliance at the Pattersonrain or shine.

There are so many stories behind the artistic traditions practiced by these individuals. Their everyday work and arts are an important and fascinating part of Marylands ever-changing cultural heritage, said Clifford Murphy, Ph.D., Director of Maryland Traditions, We want people who come to the Festival to connect with and learn from the traditional artists of our state.

In addition to traditional arts masters and their apprentices demonstrating for and teaching Festivalgoers, the Festival features two music stages with Maryland musicians performing a broad range of musical genres that include Himalayan music, South African and Mexican dance, Bluegrass, Irish and Gospel music, a salsa orchestra and more. Maryland-made arts and crafts, plus an array of distinctive Maryland food favorites will also be available for purchase.

WORKSHOPS AT THE 2ND ANNUAL MARYLAND TRADITIONS FOLKLIFE FESTIVAL:

All children must be accompanied by adults

ARTE DE ESTAMBRE (Mexican Yarn Art) with Francisco Loza, a self-taught artist who originally hails from Guadalajara, Mexico. He is an artist-in-residence at Creative Alliance in Baltimore and creates Arte de Estambre (Yarn Art) by working on a wood surface using a combination of waxes as an adhesive base on which he intricately weaves together thread by thread yarns of brilliant colors. Francisco learned his technique by working for over 15 years with indigenous Huichol artisans who live in the Sierra Madre mountains of Nayarit and Jalisco in central Mexico. This workshop is for children ages eight and older. STUDIO #7, 1:00-5:00 PM.

CHINESE BRUSH PAINTING with Mei Yu Green of Anne Arundel County. This workshop teaches children and adults of all ages traditional Chinese brush painting, a tradition that spans several centuries. As opposed to oil painting, it involves the use of brushes dipped in ink and is similar in method to Chinese calligraphy. Workshop participants will learn the techniques of holding the brush and painting basic shapes found in nature, such as bamboo leaves and branches, on rice paper. Two 30-minute sessions will be featured back to back. CLASSROOM: 4:30PM-5:30PM.

Classroom can accommodate 15 spaces for adults and children at any given time. CLASSROOM: 3:00-4:00 PM

CLASSROOM: 1:00-2:30 PM.

San Juan Capistrano, CA (PRWEB) May 15, 2012

IQinVision (http://www.iqeye.com), market leader in high-performance HD megapixel IP cameras, today announced that the Plantation Lakes Homeowners Association (HOA), located in Olive Branch, MS, relies on a mix of IQeye HD megapixel cameras to enhance security at the 450-home development. Cyber Technology Security is the integrator for this on-going project.

We have 450 homes, located on three lakes, and were practically a suburb of nearby Memphis, TN. We were experiencing a lot of folks riding through our neighborhoods looking for items placed at the curb or to do some fishing, related Keith Dial, President of Plantation Lakes Homeowners Association. Weve had some no trespassing signs, but were not a gated community, so we needed a more effective deterrent.

Plantation Lakes has three entrances, marked by 15-foot high brick columns. With so few ways in, it seemed logical to monitor who was coming in and out from these chokepoints. Id like to think we saw the future, recalled Dial, in that we were looking for a way to help us avoid confrontations with anybody coming in, and we were looking to increase our deterrent effect against unwanted visitors.

Plantation Lakes, like many communities, maintains a Neighborhood Watch committee. Given recent events in Florida, where a Neighborhood Watch member fatally shot a young man he suspected of trespassing, such incidents weigh heavily on the minds of the management for homeowners associations. We might have a situation where they [Neighborhood Watch member] might feel they need to confront someone. Early on, we saw this could be dangerous, explained Dial.

Dial and the HOA Board of Directors contacted Hugh Brewer of Cyber Technology Security, and Brewer recommended megapixel cameras from IQinVision be installed at each of the entrances to Plantation Lakes. I noticed right away the combined effect of No Trespassing signs plus cameras cut in half the number of people driving through looking for items at the curb or a FedEx package, items of opportunity, said Dial. Our best interests are served by monitoring our surveillance footage and reporting to the proper authorities.

Plantation Lakes stores their high-quality megapixel images for up to 30 days, so anytime an incident is reported, they have the footage on file to properly investigate and identify what people and/or vehicles entered and left the property during the period when the incident occurred. Future plans call for installing additional cameras at each entrance to extend the field of vision down each street and to capture vehicles from multiple angles. Also, the Homeowners Association will expand their live monitoring of camera views.

Perhaps an unexpected, but highly welcome, result of the increased security for Plantation Lakes is the positive effect owners are experiencing on home values. Dial has observed that re-sale values are up, and the community has been running down the inventory of homes that were in foreclosure. This level of sophisticated security demonstrates that we are staying updated, not outdated. We are presenting a better face to potential homeowners. Thats part of our mission, to make the community safer and help those home values go up.

Dial reports that local police are aware of the video surveillance program, and they have on occasion viewed some of the associations footage. Dial has also observed that the surveillance footage helps to identify high traffic periods and times when certain traffic patterns develop, so they, in turn, can alert the authorities to potential problems.

All in all, Dial and the HOA have been very satisfied with the results of their video surveillance program to date. All this is a benefit for us. We dont have to use our Neighborhood Watch to, for example, take a tag number. We reduce the interactions. Weve got a process in place that lets people know they are being monitored, and we dont have to approach them. Its a huge deterrent, and it also gives us high-quality images when needed. The community definitely seems satisfied with what weve done. Along with our neighborhood Courtesy Patrol, we are demonstrating that your community is being monitored, and the cost per homeowner is minimal.

This program and our use of IQeye megapixel technology puts us on the map compared with other communities not doing this. Were not just keeping up with the Joneses, we are the Joneses, Dial concluded.

On the completion of his working visit to Bratislava Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev gave interview on March 19 at his temporary residence to the correspondent of the influential TV Bloomberg, broadcasted all over the world in 7 languages. In reply to the question ‘Relations between Russia and Azerbaijan are moderated lately, what is Your expectation of that?’ President Ilham Aliyev said ‘This process has started long time ago, since Vladimir Putin has become head of Russia. Indeed, there are considerable positive changes in the relations between our countries – the positions have become closer, the issues which were arising some kind of disputes have been solved. Both Russia and Azerbaijan understand that having cooperation with each other, they might achieve much more rather than being competitors. Nowadays, our relations are at very high level and we are good neighbors, there aren’t any contradictions in the issues of bilateral meaning, as well as some other issues. I visited Russia quite recently, which was very successful. Number of important documents was signed, wide conversation on the issues took place. We are interested in normal, friendly and kind-neighborhood relations, so is Russia. That is why they are filling with the real contents having political willing.’ Answering the question on division of the Caspian and fast militarization of the Caspian basin President of Azerbaijan said ‘Caspian problem was one of the issues, which always existed between Russia …
