Historic Districts
Thanks to the hard work of Garfield residents, our HP Officers, and the Garfield Organization, the Garfield neighborhood has two of the largest historic districts in the city of Phoenix: the Garfield [PDF] and the North Garfield [PDF]. Garfield was developed from 1883 to 1931 and is the oldest historic neighborhood still relatively intact in Phoenix. Garfield was annexed to the original Phoenix Townsite in the 1800's, and most homes in Garfield were constructed from the 1890s to the 1930s. Architectural styles include Craftsman, Classic and California Bungalow styles, Pyramid Cottages, Period Revival, variants of Southwest styles, Prairie-influenced styles, and International.

Garfield's Historic Preservation Liaison is Raleigh Dombek. He can be contacted at 602-256-6789, fax 602-256-6780 or via a message.

Here are just a few of the many historic homes in the Garfield Neighborhood...

This Queen Anne style home, the Hidden House, was built in 1895.

NIA funds assisted the owner with the recent renovation of the Prairie influenced 1920 Pieri House
1907 Pyramid Cottage on Pierce Street pending NIA restoration. We have more of these rare style homes than any other neighborhood.

This 1915 Craftsman Bungalow, originally owned by Deputy Sheriff Blanco, was recently restored by the current owners with NIA funds.
