Helen Trujillo, our "Nana del barrio" and neighborhood hero, passed away in late 2004 after many years of service on the board of directors of the Garfield Organization. Helen's committment to her community had a stong emphasis on children and education, and before she passed away she was working to establish a scholarship for students in the Garfield Neighborhood to encourage students to make the transition from Elementary to Middle School and High School. In honor of her tireless work, we have set up the Helen Trujillo Memorial Scholarship through Wells Fargo Bank. This scholarship which we plan to begin disbersing in Fall of 2006, will be used to benefit school-age children who are Garfield residents. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide books and school supplies to Garfield youth who are poised to enter Middle School or High School. Tax-deductible contributions can be made at any Wells Fargo Branch to the Helen Trujillo Memorial Scholarship Account #0896320744.
